Introduction:
With a national initiative and federal support, LAUSD (Los Angeles Unified School District)
established this pioneering program in summer 2008. It was the first Arabic Core Class in a public school in California.
The Arabic program started then with one course, and now offers multiple courses for various levels.
Three Arabic courses meet subject-e (Language Other than English or LOTE) requirement for high school graduation as well as admission to the University of California (UC) and the California State University (CSU): Arabic 1 for LOTE Year 1, Arabic 2 for LOTE Year 2, and Arabic 3 for LOTE Year 3.
