The teacher of this class, Ms Nada Shaath, is experienced in Arabic education with emphasis on full immersion. She participated in the standards development for foreign languages (in California). She is OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) Arabic testing certified. Ms Shaath has advanced knowledge of utilizing information technology to language teaching.
BACKGROUND:
From 1993 to 1999, Ms Shaath worked as an Elementary teacher in a prestigious school in Jordan, Amman Baccalaureate School. During her work there, she was part of the international accreditation team that undertook the responsibility of evaluating school programs, examining strengths and weakness, developing recommendations, and improving overall education.
In 2000, she came to the US as a visitor. An administrator in an Arabic school in Seattle asked her to stay and work as a teacher to help establish an Arabic immersion program using the Montessori method. She did; and the success of that program attracted the media's attention resulting in a nice article in the Seattle times in May 2000 entitled "Arabic meets Montessori"(Click to download a PDF).
